‘Inspiring today’s learners to be tomorrow’s leaders’.
We very much see teaching as a vocation and in this light we aim to recognise and respond sensitively to the talents and needs of every trainee teacher and provide the best means of developing their full potential.
Our context is a varied one within East London and parts of Essex. PLS schools are spread across the area. It is the most culturally diverse geographical area in the whole of the United Kingdom with every major faith represented and a multiplicity of languages spoken.
In some of our schools populations are transient and many of our learners have refugee status and little English when they arrive in our schools. Inclusion is therefore key to all our schools and in parts of the PLS area Special schools do not exist giving trainees a unique insight into the practicalities of real inclusion in schools.
Equally in other parts of the PLS reach, trainees will have the opportunity of observing and possibly training in the Special School environment. There will be opportunities to compare the two approaches.
Our challenge is to find trainees who will be able to face challenging but very rewarding circumstances on a daily basis, progress through our training programme to become outstanding teachers and take up the employment opportunities available in our local area.
100% of last year’s trainee cohort who decided to go into teaching secured employment in schools.
